Brad Booth – PokerEH.com Interviw
How old were you when you started playing poker (professionally)? Well I started playing poker with my grandfather at the age of 6, learning the hand rankings etc. But I started playing professional poker at the age of 15. I used to tell my parents that I was going to work, and hitch hike to the $3/$6 limit game. That's how I supported my lucrative teenage lifestyle. Lol! Did you play the 'Canadian' scene much early on, and if so, at what casinos/underground games? Absolutely! I grew up in the Canadian underground poker scene. Sneaking into the late night poker clubs like Lumberman's, Athen's Club, Nooksack Casino in the US, all before I was 16 years old. And played plenty at the Elbow River in Calgary, in Regina, and of course Diamond Tooth Girtes in the Yukon… Open since 1904! First Casino ever built in Canada, and still open to this day. What poker player do you most respect and why? No question… Doyle Brunson. He's a living legend. Being able to exist at such a high level for so long is so impressive. But there's lots of others that I hold in equally high regard… Too many to mention really. What poker books/movies/videos inspired you the most to give poker a try professionally? Funny enough, I've never read a poker book, or watched a poker video. I learned the game the old fashioned way. Never the less, the movie Rounders was very inspirational in my poker playing… And if you want to have a reciting contest… Bring it on! Will you be playing at this year's NAPC WPT event at the Fallsview Casino? 100%. I've changed the dates of my annual tournament "The Brad Booth All In For Arthritis" so the events don't overlap. The staff and people at the Fallsview have always treated me with the utmost respect. They are truly wonderful people and I can't wait for this year's event. Who is/was your toughest high stakes poker opponent? Patrick Antonious 100%... He colludes!!! Hand after hand I see him and GOD colluding on the outcome of every fricking River. Lol! What is your favorite beer? This question's obvious… Where's the tail gate party, cause I'm bringing Pilsner What is your favorite poker game? Without a doubt it would be Pregnant 3's or Kings and Little Ones. Okay, maybe Pot Limit Omaha would be a close third. What is your favorite tournament to play? My tournament… The Brad Booth All In For Arthritis, because I believe in the cause. Charity events like this are often overlooked. I feel privileged to give my time for this event. There's also a couple of great events at the River Rock Casino in May and November. These tournaments really hit home because I've been playing in Vancouver my whole life, and it's great to see all the old boys out. So many great memories! Do you have any thoughts of coming up with a poker book/video/tv series? I've been approached by several different authors, and I do hope to have a book out in the near future. When not playing poker, what is your favorite thing to do to relax? Spending time in Vancouver with my friends and family. There's nothing better than having a great night out with the people that mean the most to you. Who would win in a UFC fight? Daniel Negreanu or Gavin Smith? One of my best friends James Lopushinsky got head butted by Gavin Smith, so I'd have to go with him. Although I gotta hand it to Daniel on the endurance front… He eats healthy and takes pretty good care of himself. But seriously, this is like asking Ali to referee an amateur bout. Put me in the Octagon with both of them, and I'll show ya who's boss. ;) What is your favorite thing to gamble on outside of poker? I'm a very high roller in the Cock Fighting world. I find myself chanting and roaring over the intensity of the events, and have been known to bet upward of $50,000 a match. But in all seriousness, flipping a coin, or watching hockey night in Canada can be just as exciting. Ha ha. What is the most frustrating/annoying/sad thing about being a poker pro? The lack of sleep! I've been known to put in long hours at the tables, and find it difficult to walk away from a game that I'm stuck in, or is too juicy to leave. It becomes very hard work to maintain structure and health. What is the most rewarding/exciting thing about being a poker pro? The amazing people I've met along the way. I love representing Canada wherever I go. Brad Booth Tournament Results
