Nenad Medic – Biography
Nenad Medic dreamed of playing professional basketball. Born in Serbia and raised in Canada, Nenad had a solid 6’5” frame that made him an intimidating force for the University of Waterloo Warriors, though he soon learned that NBA scouts rarely traveled that far north.
More importantly, as it turns out, Nenad also learned about poker.
Realizing he was unlikely to make a career on the hardwood, Nenad turned his attention to the felt. He started playing online - for play money. But with no risk, there’s little reward, so Nenad made a $75 deposit, and his player account has never been empty since.
In January 2005, Nenad left Canada’s frozen tundra with some of his online money and traveled to a much hotter destination - the World Poker Tour’s Caribbean Adventure. Out of a field of 461 players, Nenad finished sixth and went home with more than $100K. He made small cashes throughout 2005, including two money finishes at the World Series of Poker. Then, almost a year to the day after his WPT final table finish, he took third at the Australian Poker Championship. This time, his payday was $275K. Not bad for a 22-year-old, but things would soon get better. In November 2006, Nenad played his way to the final table of the WPT Championship at Foxwoods. After outlasting pros like Mimi Tran and Kathy Liebert, he claimed his first major victory and more than $1.7 million.
Despite his success in tournaments, Nenad considers himself a cash game player. For the time being, he’s keeping his ambitions simple – he just wants to be known as a “solid player.” As if he could be recognized as anything else.
