Seven Card Stud Split high-low is an interesting game. It is stated by Sklansky that it might be the game with the biggest advantage for better players. It is a game with exposed cards, so some of your cards can be seen by your opponent. This makes it possible to bluff and to be bluffed, as scary cards that look dangerous can get your opponents off their hands.

Similarly to Omaha high-low, the best 7 stud high low strategy is to start with great low hands that can make high hands. Great starting hands are A23 suited, any 3 cards 6 and below with an Ace suited, etc. Hands to be avoided are high only hands like 10JJ or 910Q, and hands that don't have both high and low potential.

Deal:
7 Card stud high low is an ante game, with all players paying a small amount to play each game. There is no dealer button used. Each player is dealt two down cards (that only they can see) and one up card, often called a door card. The player with the lowest up card must 'bring it in', or start the betting with either a small bet or a large one. Other players in turn then can either call or raise the first players bet.

4th street:
The dealer then deals each player another up card. Play begins with the player with the strongest HIGH HAND, and again other players in turn then can either call or raise the first players bet.

5th street:
The dealer then deals each player another up card. Play begins with the player with the strongest HIGH HAND, and again other players in turn then can either call or raise the first players bet. BETS DOUBLE ON THIS STREET, and remain double sized for the duration of the game.

6th street:
Again, the dealer then deals each player another up card. Play begins with the player with the strongest HIGH HAND, and again other players in turn then can either call or raise the first players bet.

7th Street:
A final card is dealt face down, and again the player with the highest starts the action. Once all bets are finished, players open up their hands to determine teh winner of the high, and (if applicable) the winner of the low. Remember that there will ALWAYS be a high hand winner, but not always be a low hand winner.

The best five-card poker hand wins, using 5 of the 7 cards of that player.

The best five-card low poker hand wins 1/2 the pot, using 5 of the 7 cards of that player.

That is the essence of 7 Card Stud High-Low, but there are a number of other important points to understand.

Nut hands:
Any time you are playing Omaha, especially at a full handed game, you should always be playing nut hands. A good rule of thumb is this: The nuts are almost always out there. Avoid drawing to small flushes, small straights, or even small two pairs. You can easily be drawing dead, and it is easy to get stuck between aggressive players and have to pay a lot of money with a hand that has no value. A few more 7 card Stud High- Strategy points:

• The most important thing to remember when beginning to learn this game is that you get 7 cards to pick from to make your final 5 card hand, and you can use two different sets of five cards to make a high hand and a low hand. In other words, if your final seven cards are Ace-Ace-2-3-4-6-6, you would have a high hand of two pair: Aces & 6s, and a low hand of Ace-2-3-4-6.
• If a hi/lo game is played eight or better, your low hand cannot have a card higher than 8 in it. In other words, if you have Ace-2-4-6-9-10-10 as your final 7-card hand, you don't have a low, because the best low hand you can make is Ace-2-4-6-9.
• Another important thing to know about the low hands in eight or better games is that straights and flushes don't count against you. If you have the Ace-2-3-4-5 all of hearts, even though it's a straight flush, it's also a wheel, or the lowest possible hand.
